June 30th - August 17th, 1999 I took the journey home to Iceland.  I had always wanted to go back there to see where my ancestors had come from, and I finally got the chance to do so when I got accepted to be a participant in the Snorri Program.  I urge everyone, especially those who have Icelandic ancestors, to experience this amazing country for themselves.  In the meantime, come and enjoy my adventures in Iceland.
Godan dag and welcome to my Icelandic journey!  Be sure to check out all my pictures, stories, links, and memorbilia from Iceland.  I also have several links for you to discover the people, history, food, music and landscape of Iceland.  Thanks for stopping by and if you have any questions, comments or suggestions for my site, let me know.... Takk Fyrir!
Here are some pictures of my trip.  This is only a fraction of the pictures I took.  Just ask my friends who I went with...they will tell you that the running joke of the day was "Tanya, how many films did you use today?" hahahaha
My trip started by flying on June 30th from Vancouver, BC and arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the evening.  I met up with one of the girls from the trip and we stayed in Halifax for one day.  It was wonderful there!  It was Canada Day (July 1st), and it was so hot there as well.  I loved it there.
On July 1st, Canada Day, Runa and I went to the Citadel here in Halifax to watch the ceremonies.
Here I am at the opening of Pier 21. Now a museum, it was the port where all the immigrants and military came into Canada during and after WWII.
Here are the Titanic graves in Halifax. The graves are in the shape of the ship.
I left Haifax at 11:00pm on July 1st and arrived in Iceland on July 2nd.  On the drive to Reykjavik (the capital city) it seemed like I was on the moon...the fields were full of lava rock which reminded me of pictures of the moon.  We spent a week in Reykjavik, learning the language, history, and just playing tourist.  The night life is great, starts around 11pm-12am and doesn't stop tol the wee hours of the morning.  When the bars close the people wander into the streets and mingle.  During the summer it is almost 24 hour daylight so it doesn't get too dark.

March 2002 - I just finished taking the Icelandic language class that is offered by the Icelandic Canadian Club of British Columbia here in Vancouver.  I learned a lot, especially how to pronounce the Icelandic alphabet...now all I need is an Icelandic-English dictionary so I can learn some words and hopefully learn to speak it better.  I had a lot of fun with my fellow Icelandic classmates, led by our fearless leader Odinn......Takk fyrir mig Odinn!
